DIS-UNITED LABOUR.
The tinedifying exhibition of rivalries and petty jealousies between the representatives of labour at the conference with employers lasb nighb over tbe appointment of Boards of Conciliation was not very encouraging to the friends of labour. After all their trials they have not yet apprehended the truth of the axiom "United we stand, divided we fall." On the one side stood the united body of employers, anxious to meet an equally united phalanx representative of labour, in order thab wiser modes of settling their disputes might be determined upon;:.; _ Bub .. it. soon became apparent thab, before attempting to devise any machinery for the adjustment of future disputes, an existing one of ■serious import within the ranks of labour would have to be settled. It behoves the workers to settle these differences among themselves aa speedily as possible. In the last annual report of the Sydney Trade and Labour Council, the Secretary gave utterance to the following weighty words, which workers everywhere should seriously consider:—"The strike has taught us to counb well our chances before engaging in another such conflict; bo remove instanter the dire scourge of sectionalism which has too long existed among the unions in this colony, nay, in this city; to marshal our forces for bhe ballot-box, both Parliamentary and municipal, for we are devoid of friends in either senate ; to amass a good fighting fund, and not depend upon public sympathy ; to avoid high entrance fees, so bhab the Unions will be open to all."
