MINING NEWS.
Golpeh Crown (Kuaotunu).— The mine manager reports :■—" Driving has been continued during the week with the object of cutting the reef (from which encouraging prospects were obtained on the surface) at a lower level. The present week should see this accomplished. In trenching for the Marianne reef a small leader has been cub carrying nice gold. Alfkkd. — Seven pounds picked stone were to-day obtained from the leading stope east. There are about 25 loads of quartz on hanr'. and crushing will be commenced in a day or two. Saxon. —Very fair progress is still being made with the crosscut at No. 6 level, and the reef should soon be to hand. Norfolk. —This inino is looking well and quartz of excellent grade is being broken out. Shares are consequently firmer and to-day sold at Is 6d. Moanataiaki. —The cross leador ia the southern drive occasionally produces a little picked stone. It is about 12 inches thick. The battery is still engaged with 15 head of stampers, reducing tha Company's quartz. Shares to-day sold at lie 6d.
