A STEAMER BURNED.
TWO HUNDRED LIVES LOST. Thursday Island, J anuary 28. News fronn the East report; , , that there was terrible loss of life on 'Jie steamer Shanghai, which was burned on Christmas Day, principally due to the panic of the native villagers, who harassed the survivors in every possib.le way. The steamer was in the river Ys'.ng-tse-Kisng at the time, and 200 penished in the disaster.
