AQUATICS.
The Yacht Club, like fche Rowing Association, had hard work in the weather lasb Saturday, which spoilt; what promised fco be a most successful opening. No evolutions were possible off tha wharf. All sports have suffered in this way during the presenb season, and all seem to spring up more lively under the infliction. The Spray. Tawera, and Mapu were the only yachts that followed the Commodore's craft Matangi around Waiheke. During fche passage down, a number of evolutions were gone through, which, taking into account; tho high sea running, were very creditably performed. After their dismissal, the three smaller yachts had a trial of speed to Man-of-war Bay, fche Spray having the best of ifc. There were fifteen yachfcs in Drunken Bay during fcho holiday. The Awafcea visited Pufciki Bay. She haa been refitted with new canvas. Mr C. Bailey has sold the 4-fcon Ethel. Tho Cloud was out for a spin on Tuesday and looks well wifch a now suit of sails. The Ngaire, Arawn, and Rita were in the Auckland Dock during the week, being cleaned and getting ready for cruising. Tho old crack 20-foofcer Habfcie May has been converted into a half-decker. The Transit and Nekau had a race home on Monday, the latter showing her larger rival fche way home. The following are the likely compebibora in bhe yachb race under 3 tons in bho Judge's Bay Regatta :—Maud, Nekau, Habbie May, Bailey's new boat, several fishing boats, and probably fcho Mofcu Korea. Bubear and Mafcberson have arranged a match ab Orange for Saturday, November 22, on tho Waterworks recently opened. Tho course will be about 2h miles with seven turns, and the smartest man afc that game musb win. Asuccesaful voyagcacross fcheAfclanbichas been mads by tho Scotch yacht Jessica, says the " Field." She ia the latest aspirant for American yachting honours. The boat; is 45 fesfc long on fche water line, aboub 60 feeb overall, TO feet 6 inches beam, 10 feet 6 inches draught, and rated loss than 20 tons. Sho was designed by W. Fife, jun., the designer *of the famous Minerva. Jessica is jusb as pretty as bhe Minerva, bufc a libfcle larger. She will race in bho 45 feeb class, and was built for Mr McDonough, New London, Connecticut United States, America.
The Judge's Bay Regatta on December 6bh continues to excite considerable interesb in aquatic circles. Entries are likely to be large for nearly every evenb. The three Clubs belonging fco fche New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association have, I believe, acted wisely in asking tho Association nob to hold the next; championships in Auckland. There would bo no local competition, and therefore local interest would have been absent, causing apathy among fcho public. Sbill our clubs should keep their " lamps peeled " for another chance, and should gob ready forib.
Ci.fr has builb a 16-iooter ior Mr R. Murphy, and nhe will make her debut at Judge's Bay Regatta. Logan has gob bhe Tangaroa in splendid trim. She looks well and ought this season fco give a good account of herself. I don'b hear very much of tho doings of our rowing men. At bhe same bime all tho sheds are well fiiled.ab convenienb times, and plenty of steady work is being done. As soon as the races are closed, we may expect to hear plenty of talk, and I shall be tramping around wifch capital letters.
