The Canterbury Jockey Club Meeting today opened inauspiciously. Heavy ahowera and a: strong eou'-wester set' in early this morning. This, however, did not prevent" a fairly large attendance, as it cleared up somewhat ab noon, and the trains were' well filled; though the attendance was far ehort of an ordinary Cup Day.
