The surplus remaining from the labour demonstration amounts to over £100, a third of which has been carried forward to next) year's celebration. A third to go to a trades hall and a third to charity. The Takapuna and Mahinapua, which tare been laid up here during the strike, will be placed in commission again this Week. At a meeting ofaboutforty free labourers on Sunday afternoon, an Association, tobe called .,s% Free Labour Association of WellingtoiCwasi formed, and a committee appointed to prepare a basis and draw up rules. This committee will recommend to a general meeting to be held shortly that the objects of the Association be the following.: —. The maintenance of the proeout) rate.. of wages, the procuring cf. employment for members of the Association, prevention of between .capital and .labour, and in the «venb of any conftict to endeavour to have it settled by.arbitration, and to establish a benefit fund. With regard to membership they recommend that any person working aa a labourer in Wellington be eligible as a member, provided he be not a member of any Union affiliated with the Maritime • Council. "'• These recommendations are to be submitted to the employers toy approval.
