Island schooner Olive, 60 tons, Captain W. Ros3,jrefcurnod to port early this morning from Tonga and N'iae. Sho brought up a full cargo of cotton, fungus, arrowroot, etc.. from Nine. The Olive left here on May Ist last, and during the intervening six month;; has been busily engaged in McArthur and Oo.'s inter - island trade, visiting Tongratabu, Haapai, Vavau, Samoa, W'allis Island. Fotuna, Niue (Savaye Island), and other localities. At. Neiafu (Vavau) in July she had a narrow escano from stranding in a gals, losing two anchors and a cable. After calling ab tho various ports of call in Tonga, the schooner proceeded to Nino on her return trip to Auckland, loaded up there, and left the island on the llbhmlb. for Auckland. On the passage she encountered some exceedingly tempestuous weather, and Ur.pt. Ross saysfchab,aiiround,thetreabmenfc Ilia little schooner received in the pale 3 was the worst in his experience. On the ]9fch ult. ho fell in with a very heavy thunderstorm, and a strong galo from "the N.W., which fell to a calm shortly. On the 22nd and 23rd strong N. W. winds were met with, veering round to west, and'a very strong S.W;. ga'.e then sprang up, lasting for 36 hour.?. Then strong westerly winds set in. A mountainous sea wa.s encountered during the had weather. Tho Greab Barrier was sighted, on Thursday morning, and the schooner anchored in tho stream early today.
