The Maritime Strike.
THE' MARITIME COUNCIL.
" Who are the Maribime Council ?" is a question continually asked. Mr Winter, in a letter to the "Lyttelton Times, V gives the following information :—The 'Maritime Council consists of a President, VicePresident, Secretary and representatives from the various affiliated societies; they meet every six months, and may be called together ab any time if necessary. Mr D. P. Fisher, of Wellington, is the president of the Council; his position is sbricbly honorary. Mr P. Brown, president of the Wharf Labourers' Union in Lyttelton, is vice-president s his position is likewise an honorary one. Mr J. Millar is secretary of the Seamen's Union, and as such ho receives £4 per week for his Services; he is also secretary to the Maritime Council "without salary." During the present struggle he has also positively declined bo draw salary as secretary of the Seamen's Union. Mr H. Maxwell is general secretary to the Wharf Labourers' Union; he receives as such £4 per week.
