The Directors of the Westport Coal Company (Limited) have on all occasions endeavoured to meet the views of their employees, and although paying higher wages than are obtainable elsewhere, thoy have lately submitted to restrictions of output and other unreasonable demands, to the serious detriment of the Shareholders' interests; but, notwithstanding this, the mine has been laid idle without any demand having been made on the Company, or even naming the cause at issue. The Directors, therefore aro now compelled in self-defence to invite labour (non-Union miners), and aro prepared to enter into twelve months' agreement with suitable men.
