MEETING OF UNIONISTS.
PROTEST AGAINST RAILWAY DISMISSALS.
A mass meeting of Lytbelton Unionists yesterday afternoon unanimously passed a resolution disapproving of the recenb disburbance, repudiating any knowledge of the same, and deciding never to countenance anything of the kind, as being a disgrace to Unionism and opposed to its best interests.
A crowded meeting in the Theatre Royal lasb nighb, under bhe auspices of the Trades and Labour Council, passed the following resolutions : — " That bhis meeting enters its strongest protest against bhe conducb of thsßaHway Cppniissioneri Jn jHgp-jssing
members of the railway servants' executive for bheir official such proceeding being calculated to increase bhe presenb disorganisation of the trade of bhe colony; bhab bhis meeting deems ib imperative that the dismissed officials of bhe railway service should be reinstated, and calls upon the members of Parliamenb now assembled bo exercise bheir undoubted righb of criticising bhe recenb action of the Commissioners ; bhab bhis meeting considers the Railway Commissioners' action a direct abtack upon liberby of speech, end thab ib calls for an emphatic protest from all sections of the communiby ; thab in view of bhe recenb movements in and oub of Parliament antagonistic bo bhe interest of labour bhis meebing asserts bhe necessity of immediate and concerted action as regards the ensuing elections, and calls upon all who are qualified to ab once register their names on the electoral rolls."
