AUCKLAND WEST KINDERGARTEN.

The annual meeting of ladies and gentlemen interested in the Auckland West Kindergarten was held ab 3 p.m. yesterday. His Worship the Mayor presided, and amongst tho gentlemen present were Rove. It. F. Macnicol, W. Calder, O. B. Monro, J. Campbell, T. F. Robertson, E. Best, Scott West, Farley, Captain Daldy, and Sir W. Fox. After tho sixty children bad been exercised by Mi&ses Lumsdon and Burnct, the school was dismissed. Annual Rki-oiit. — The Chairman read tho report, which showed that satisfactory work had been done. During tho year the ladies had visited tho homes of tho children, and where parents were considered able to pay, a emall.weekiy payment was insisted upon. Under the /supervision of Mrs A. Stewart, mothers' meeting** hud been inBtitutod. Reference was made to the good service rendered by Misses Lumedcu and Burnett, who, in addition to ordinary leasone, taught the children household duties. The number on tho roll had recently boon reduced in consequence of a number of children of seven years of age having been drafted into tho public schools. The attendance avoraged- 56, and during the year 10,039 dinners had been given tho children. Tho creche, under the management of Mrs Baud, was also doing good work. The Corn*, mitteo, in concluding the report of past work, expressed thanks to all who had assisted, and also to the press for supporting the movement. Building Fund Account: Balance in Savings Bank, August 6th, 1859, £60; October 31st, donation Dr. Knight, £5 5s ; Docerabor 31st, interest, £3 3s 9d; August Ist, 1890, cash deposited, £70 ; amount at credit account, August. 6th, £138 8s 9d. Disbursements: Salaries, matron and teachers, £69 123 8d ; coai, gas, firewood, etc., £8 19s 10d; groceries, £14 18s 3d : expenses concert, £16 10s ;■ repairs, £4 10s: advertising and printing, £2 3s 6d ; sundries, £1 3s. 8d ; amount, μ-iid to building fund account, £75 5s ; balance in Savings Bank, £26 15s Id ; cash in hand, 10s 9(3. Total, £220 11s 9d.

Medical Officer's Rei'OKT.—Dr. Knight, hon. medical officer, reported that his servicea has not been much in request; excepting for small ailments. The general health of the school had been very good, and the children clean and tidy.—The Chairman moved the adoption of the report, and congratulated the ladies on their jrocd management as evidenced by the surplus carried forward. He considered that the' Kindergarten system might, with advantage, be utilised by the Government. The creche was evidently doing a good work, as during the year 160 had been cared for. Mr Upton algo complimented Miss Lumsden upon her ability as a teacher. —Sir William Fox seconded the adoption of the reports, which was carried unanimously.—Captain Daldy also made a few remarks.

Committee of Management. —The fol- ■ lowing were elected a committee of management on'the motion of the Rev. T. F, Robertson, seconded by Rev. E. Best :— President, Mrs A. Stewart; vine-president, Mrs J. Dacre; treasurer, Mrs Daldy ; secretaries, Mrs Parker and Miss Peacock. Committee: Mesdames Fauldeiy Knight, Elkin, Rake, Johnson, Dickson, Blomfleld, Armstrong, Owen, Edgar.' and Oliphant. Votes of thanks were accorded the Board of Education for the use of the building, also to those who had contributed, to Dr. Knight, and to the Mayor for presiding.
