WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Can you, sir, who are popularly supposed to know everything worth knowing, inform us poor electors, wbafc does this unusual activity among the lawyers mean ? Pt. Laishley drops the pedantic style with which he regales the readers of the "Herald," and writes in a manner befitting the comprehension of the readers of the working man's paper. E. VV. Burton writes with clearness and forco. W. J. Napier throws overboard his church's teaching, and advises us through thick , and thra bo stick to our national system of education ; while \V. L, Roes waxes eloquent on tha dignity of labour, and other members of the profession are freely spoken of aa probablo candidates at tho forthcoming general olection.

While noc wishing to discourage any capable cibizen from shedding the last drop of his brother's blood in defence of his country, at fcho sam-e time I confess bo being deeply puzzled at this aetviby amongst those whom I have read the Knights of Labour designate "one of the fleecing members of eociety." Tim Doolan, himself a member of the foorco, says :

"If once you let a lawyer in, T-bb-cause will end in woe : The lamb he will most, surely skin, And theii'burst up the show."

Therefore I hope, Mr Editor, ycureelf or some one will tell us " What does it mean ?" —I am, etc.,

Inquirer.
