OCR GOLDFIELDS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COBRESPONBENT.)
Thames, this day. Saxon.—Noi 2 reef was broken down last nighfc, and a few pounds of fair picked atone were obtained. The reef at present averages 9 inches, and is in a splendid channel of country for gold. No. 3 reef is expected to be met with in the nexb 20 feet. A little gold is met with occasionally. At No. 4 level the reef has opened quo to 18 inches in thickness, and upwards of 101b of fair picked stone were obtained.
New Albuknia. —Dixon's reef ab the battery level is more kindly-looking for gold. On Saturday strong colours of gold were seen in the drive west. At the intermediate level the [country has also improved, and in breaking down the leader good blotches of gold were seen through the quartz.
May Queen.—The quartz in No. 1 lode still shows gold when broken down, but no picked stone has been saved. The leaders in the drive on No. 4 reef east are increasing in thicknesp. Towards the slide a splendid body of heavily mineralised quartz has been met with, fully three feet thick. Nice dabs of gold aro eeen each time the reef is broken.
Cambria.—ln starting a new stope rising from No. 2 level a nice leader was cut showing dabs and colours of gold. Caledonian. — The intermediate drives on each sido of the winze on No. 1 leader have been driven a distance of Bffc east and weß&. The average thickness of the leader is aboub Sin. In breaking it down in the eastern drive colours of gold were seen freely through the quartz, but I have nob soen any gold yet in the western drive, although it looks quite as well as it does going eastward. The rise on this leader above No. 9 level has been put up seven feet. The leader is about six inches in thickness, and lookH very promising for gold. The crosscut at No. 2 level has been extended a distance of twelve feet during the week. The country still continues good, but there is no appearance of the leader yet. Dives.—At No. 3 level 81b of picked stone were obtained when breaking down the reof, which at present ia rather email in the face. Good strong colours of gold are seen at every breaking down in the intermediate level. Carting to the battery commenced yesterday.
Red Mercury (Kuaotunu). —Twenty-five tons of quartz have arrived here for treatment at the Moanataiari battery.
Red Mercury.—Good progress has been made in the low level. The drive has been extended anothor 37 feet and the reef should bo in hand within the next 10 feet if the underlay is the same as in tho upper workings. A good deal of water and stringer quartz are now being met with, which are good indications of the proximity of the reef.
