HELPING HAND MISSION.
PBOPOSED EXTENSION OF THE
HALL.
* The valuable work being carried on by the l[ Freeman's Bay Helping Hand Mission is r already outgrowing .the accommodation I available, and steps are being taken to re- ?:- move these disabilities. During tho past I month a circular has been freely circulated ■* among the Christian public of Auckland, ,jj and in response thereto the sum of £37 is l< already acknowledged. Referring to the i, matter the fiist issue of the "Helping !I' Hand " cays :—" We are determined not to
remain in nor contract debt in the extension
1 J and development of this worfe, and in so far §> as ib ie in accordance with our Master's b I will, we are satisfied that He will send us y>l the needed funds. Our first effort will be I ' to wipe off'the balance ot debt remaining tj i on the building. Next the extension of our || hall, to provide for" "the eons tan tly-increae-jjf j ing? congregations. Accommodation for I another hundred people will be arranged _ for, while a slight alteVatibri to the gal--1 lery will t aable us to dispose of the ] crowds of young people always co eager to attend our meetings. The room, at the back of the hall will be raised to the level of the side street, and enlarged so as -to form a commodious reading-room for working men in the district who may choose to avail themselves of its privileges. Last, tbough not least, our Sister Biakeley has sometimes been sorely burdened to know !,. how to deal with certain cases where the question has been asked, * I want to give «T> this life of sin and shame. Can you help me ?' It seems to us a fearful reproach that in ; a oity like Auckland, witb its wealthy ' Carietia'ri zeal and philanthropy, the claims of oar fallen sisters should be'so over- ' lcoked. An act of self-denial now and then ! is a salutary disciplino, and the result of ' euch, if sent to us in cash, would enable us to accomplish the desire of our hearts, and open a Rescue Home for these. We earnestly pray that God may lay this matter on the hearts of His own people. Many ; other new agencies that might fairly be j undertaken in connection with a work like ■ tbia sugarest themselves, and will no doubt 1 take definite shape in due time. We have constantly men and women out of employr j xnent coming under our notice, and wo hope 1 to provide some sort of an employment I agency, and thus bring into contact emIf ployer and employe , ."
