Last evening the first meeting of the committee of the newly-formed Auckland Good Samaritan Society was held, Pastor Birch presiding. Some discussion took place regarding the need of laying down ■ a den'nifca plan for the Society. The Chairman thought thab there was abundant work for a society of this kind when they were told that there were about.seven hundred youps. women of loose character in and about the city. A society of this kind, untrammelled by churehisru, wa« capable of a lob of good in this work. He knew thab many . girls, afber a life of vice, wished to reform, bub needed help and sympathy. They wanted a society that would do a big thing for a man and be quiet aboub ib, or help to rescue a woman and nob boast of ib. They did nob want bo make vice easy, bub they might make it a little easier for bhose who had been down in the gutter ,of vice to come back bo bbc pathway of honour and virtue. On the motion of the Rev. Rabbi Goldstein, seconded by Dr. Bakewell, it was eventually resolved, " That a committee be appointed to define the lines on which the Society, if necessary, should work." The Rev. Mr Birch, Dr. Bakewell, Colonel Haul tain, Rabbi Goldstein, Messrs Abbott, Mills, Fry, Barber, and Dr. Beale were constituted the Committee. Special value in sample Hosiery ab Geo.
