A COMPROMISE.

At* a conference between the , recentlyformed : .;.. Marine Officers' Association and the owners, the latter agreed to the proposals bhat seagoing steamers shall carry three officer*, tho first officer receiving £15 per month, second £12, and third £10; thab there shall be three watches where there are three officers, and that officers are not to bo dismissed without a fair hearing. They are to be allowed one day off each month at terminal port, and mess money is to be paid. Promotion is to be according, to seniority, and merit, and membership of the Association is indispensable for employment. The conditions are made for a period of two years.
