THE WHANGAPOA GOLDFIELD.

A return just prepared shows thab the present owners of Whangapoa wabershed, Coromandel, include the Kauri Timber Company wibh 26,300 acres, and five natives wibh 3,310 acres. Of bhe 26,300 acres owned by bhe Kauri Tjmlber Company, 25,767 acres previously belonged to Mr C. A. Harris, 33 acrea to Mr John Fraser (Waipu), 533 acres to Mr C, H. Osmond, and 463 acres bo Mr J. C. MacCormick. The properby held by the Kauri Timber Company was leased on June Ist, 1873, tor a period of 21 years for mining purposes, ab a renbal of £35 per annum. GOVERNMENT AND BANK. Mr Duncan has given notice of his intention to move: (1) Thab there be laid .upon the table copies of all written agreements at presenb in force between the Government and its banking or financial agents, and further bhe subsbance of any verbal arrangements which in any way affecb the banking, financial, or exchange operations of the Government of New Zealand; and (2) thab there be laid before this House copies of all correspondence bhab has taken place bebween the Governmenb and Bank of 'New Zealand on the subject of bhe banking accounb of the colony from the 31sb day of March, 1887, bo bhe 31st March, 1890, and showing in detail the dabes ab which bhe transfer of balances from tho local branches of the public account to the public accounb at Wellington were made. FACTORIES AND SHOPS BILL, The Labour Bills Commibtee this morning passed the Factories and Shops Bill with amendments previously telegraphed, and then discussed the Truck Bill, on which they got as far aB Clause 9. JOTTINGS. The second reading of the Dog Registration Acb Amendmenb Bill has been passed by the Legislative Council. Hon. Mr Mitchelson has given notice of his intention to introduce the Licensing Prohibition Bill, the objects of which have been previously referred bo. Mr Goldie proposes bo ask tho Premier whether in view of the serious defalcations thab have from time to bime been discovered in tho accounts of the Friendly Societies, he will take steps to give efi'ecb to a desire on the parb of many members of such societies to have their accounts duly audited by the Audit Department. Mr Hislop is moving for a commibtee of five members to be appointed for the purpose of considering and reporting whab action, if any, should be taken in regard bo the prosecution of bhe anpeal Poaka v. Ward.

Mr Goldie has asked thab there be laid before the House all correspondence bebween the Government and the Rev. Mr Watson, or any obher person or persons relabive to his appointmenb to lecture, when in England or elsewhere, upon New Zealand as a suitable field for intending emigrants. Mr R. Thompson asks the Government if ib is brue a large portion of a valuable orchard, planbed some years ago on a foresb reserve ab Whangarei, has rocenbly been destroyed by digging up and removing brees, and if so by whose authoriby has bhis wanbon destruction taken place. Mr Moat is moving that there be laid before the House a return of all lands granted in brusb to different religious denominations for the [education of natives or of natives and Europeans combined, revenue derived from ib in 1889 and bhe number of children who have been educabed or mainbained and educabed by each denomination during the said year from bhe funds derived from such endowments.
