Sir,—Mr Hislop's Bill, dealing with the earlier closing of shops, is exciting interest among the supporters and opponents of the measure. I learn the master drapers, who include in their Association some who are among the present late closers, have wired to Wellington their support of the Bill, with two or three slight alterations. The Committee of the Assistants' Union have taken similar steps. The Knights of Labour Early Closing Committee, who have supported the measure Bince their formation, and perhaps more than any other organisation, know the feeling of the retail traders on this question, having the opinion of nearly all as the result ot a canvass trom shop to shop, meet to-morrow night to consider the proposals of the Bill, and how best to hasten its adoption by the Legislature. The conduct of some traders in holding back to the last minute in preparing theirshops for closing, thusencroaching from ton minutes to half-an-hour on the agreed time, causes those hithertoindifleront to compulsory closing to request it in the interest of fair play.—l am, etc., Watchman".
