THE TARANAKI FOOTBALLERS.
—*—■. ARRIVAL THIS AFTERNOON.
The s.s. Gairloch arrived in the Manukau about 2.30 p.m. to-day from Waitara, having on board tho team of Taranaki footballers who are to do battle with "our boys" at Potter's Paddock on Saturday next. The team were met ab the Onehunga wharf by a brake from town, and were driven into the city. Mr Dixon, Secretary to the Auckland Rugby Union, met the visitors as they landed, oc behalf of his Union.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Devonport Band of Hope was held last night, and as usual the Congregational schoolroom, where the meetings are held, was crowded. An address abounding in telling illustrations was delivered by Mr E, C. Carr. Miss Landers presided at the harmonium. Several pieces by the choir, and songs by Mrs Clark, Messrs Jones and Tanfield, junr., completed a most excellent programme.
