AN OLD TROUBLE REVIVED.
A cable message from Sydney to-day states that a dispube has arisen ab that port m connection with tho Island-trading steamer Janet Nicoll, which ia under charter a° T? 8 " 8 Hender son and Macfarlane, of Auckland. She has jusb returned to Sydney from an extended trip up to the Line Island, Elhce, Marshall, and Gilbert Groups, wit-copra,etc. The Sydney Wharf labourers retuae to discharge her, on tho ground thab she is manned by a coloured or Kanaka crew.
The Janob Nicoll, ib maybe remembered, letb Auckland five months ago for the Island,. When she arrived here from Sydney, iusc previous to this, the firsb and second officers lefb tho Bteamer ab this port, refusing to proceed to the Islands in her, on the ground thab her crew, who wero all South Sea Islanders or Kanakas, were incompetent aa aeamen, and not fib to go to sea as deck hands or firemen. The Mercantile Officers' Association aupported the officers and afforded them pecuniary assistance. The steamer, however, has now arrived safely at Sydney, and it remains to bo seen whab will be bhe upshob of the dispute concerning her crew.
