CORRESPONDENCE.

TEMPERANCE (!) ON THE

BENCH.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Those that take your valuable paper, and have read therein Sir William Fox's judgment in tho Police Court news given on an unwise brother, will come to the conclusion the sooner ho gives up the word " temperance " as his motto, he will be acting wisely, for he has proved over and over again it is not quite in harmony with his principles. For a more intemperate, unwise, bigoted judgment could not possibly be given in this enlightened age. If He who created us and redeem .d us with His blood should demand an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, each time we broke the moral and physical law, hell itself could not contain the millions that would bo consigned there. But far otherwise is His teaching when He says if a brother offends seventy and seven times forgive him. But, temperance ! temperance. ! Well might we exclaim : Save us not from it, but from the power 6i those who profess it.-—I am, etc., J. A. Campbell, Richmond Road.
