The s.s. Wellington came out of dock to-day. The mission schooner Southern Cross, Capt. Bongard, arrived in port at 11.30 a, in. to-day from her regular Melaneaian cruise via Norfolk Island. The Union Steamship Company's cargosfceamer Taieri (late Cairntoul) leaves Dunedin for Calcutta on the 25th ult., and returns in October with a cargo of Indian produce. The Union Company's s.s. Rotomahana, on her arrival at Port Chalmers from Melbourne, is to be laid up for the winter, her running being taken up by the s.s. Tarawera. The Rotomahana is to be fitted up with the electric light. Captain Friston, of the British ship Lake Supervisor, died at sea recently, while on the voyage from London to Adelaide. He was well known in New Zealand, having for several years commanded vesspls in the the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet. He was laat in the colony in the,ship Waitangi.
