The following was the result of the race for The Newmaeket Stakes of 6,50050v5, by subscription of 30sovs each ; for three-year-olds ; colts,' 9st ; fillies, Bst 91b ; the second to receive l.OOOsovs, and the third 500sovs out of the stakes. A.F., one mile and two furlongs, straight. Duke of Portland's b f Memoir, by St. Simon—Quiver ... .. — ... 1 Duke of Westminster's br c Blue Green, by Cceruleus—Angelica 2 Baron de Rothschild's oh c Le Nord, by Tristan—La Noce ... ... ... 3 Memoir, the winner, finished second , to her stable companion Semolina in tho One Thousand Guineas contest this season. She was bred by her owner the Duke of Portland, and is by St. Simon from Quiver, by Toxophlite, from a young Melbourne mare whose dam, Brown Bess, was by Camel. She carried silk half-a-dozen times as a, two-year-old, and was successful thrice —in the Bradford Plate, 6 furlongs, at the Leicester September Meeting; tho Zetland Stakes, 6 furlongs, at the Newmarket First October Meeting ; and the Pendergast Stakes, at the Newmarket Second October Meeting ; her winnings totalling, £J, 308 7s. . J. Rae arrived by the s.s. Waihora last night from Sydney. Ingorina has changed. hands. Messrs Wilson and Sayers, the cash bookmakers, are the buyers.
The Australian Jockey Club have granted jockeys' licenses to T. Taylor and Priest.
