D. F. EVANS' BANKRUPTCY.

A FAREWELL LETTER,

From a letter which has been received by Mr Lawson, Official Assignee, there appears to be little doubb that Mr D. F. Evans, who is an undischarged bankrupt, has taken his departure from this scene of commercial strife. It is assumed, from the statements made by the debtor in this document, that he leftjfor Fiji by the s.s. Arawata on Monday evening, and consequently he is by this time well on his way thither. Late yesterday afternoon Mr Lawson received through the posb a letter written by the bankrupt, evidently in haste, and left unfinished and unsigned, the last word written being "yet." The debtor stated that, having met with disappointments, and being utterly penniless, he was almoefc distracted, and driven to his wits' end. A triend having come to the rescue and offered him a passage to the islands he gladly accepted it, as he had found it was simply madness to stop in Auckland. He had endeavoured to comply with every request made by Mr Lawson and the creditors, and spent many weeks in compiling statements which, as Mr Waymouth stated, contained a full statement of his affairs, besides showing that the money had not been invested upon luxurious living, but had been mostly absorbed by interest and charges. The debtor added that he anticipated that he would be able to return to Auckland about the end of May,' and that he hoped to be in a better position than he was at the time of writing. ■
