POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.

(Before Messrs F. G. Clayton, W. Lodder, and Sir William Fox, Justices.) Stray Houses.— Patrick Tierney and* James P. Nicholson pleaded guilty to having permitted their horses to stray in , tho public streets, and were each fined 5s ' and costs.

A Serious Charge. —Joseph Homing* way was charged with having committed an unnatural ofl'eiice on the 16th of March. —Inspector Broham said he must ask for a remand, as the accused was only arrested at an early hour this morning.—Accused said, " I plead not guilty to the chatge." — Tlia Bench remanded the accused until the 25th instant.

Lakceny.—Joseph Welling was charged '. with having on the 31st of March stolen two shirts and one pair of trousers, valued at 15s, tho property of Mr Knapp.—Prisoner ' pleaded euilty.— Sir William Fox asked, " Where did you get your liquor - on this occasion!" but got no reply.— The Bench remarked that there were 35 ' previous convictions against the aooueed. » —He was therefore sentenced- to six • months' imprisonment with bard Jabour Claim tor Wages.—Thomas Andrews, : master of the barque Willowbank, was charged with having neglected to pay .one Thomas Burke the sum of £5 9s 6(1, alleged to be due as wages. —Mr T. Cotter " appeared for defendant and pleaded not guilty.—Mr E. Cooper, who appeared for tho informant, stated that his client had been illtroated, and also that jt was owing to his com- ; plaints that tho unseaworthiness of . the barque had . been discovered.— Mr Cotter said, that, the only matter dealt with by the information was a question of vi-apes. He should object to evidence being given on other matters. —Thomas Burke deposed that he was a seaman on board the barque .Willowbu.nk. He shipped at : Northampton, and had asked for his ciis- . charge. The wages due to him amounted to £5 9s Cd. This had nob been paid.—Mr ■ Cotter contended that, according to the articles, complainant was not entitled to ; his discharge until the vessel returned to' London.—The Bench accepted this point, and dismissed the ease, allowing Captain,,; Andrews 21s as costs.
