WAREHOUSEMEN'S PICNIC.

AN ENJOYABLE AFFAIR,

The Auckland softgoods Warehousemen's second annual picnic book place on Saturday last, and proved an immense success. The gtoamßhip Eagle had been chartered for the occasion, and about ten o'clock left the wharf with nearly 300 excursionists of both sexes on board for Motutapu. The weather was delighbful in the exbreme, and the brip very enjoyable, enhanced as it was by Mr Hunter's brass band, which played some very charming waltz music and operatic airs. Mr McEwin, the restaurateur of Queen-street, was the appointed caterer, and the luncheon was served in a large marquee where the tables were spread with the choicest delicacies of the season... After the repast a lengthy and attractive programme of sports had been improvised. The judges were Messrs J. F. Logan and H. Thompson. The starter Mr J. C. Macky, and the Committee were Messrs A. Snedden, G. Brown, H. Vealo and ■C. Collar.. Mr A. Snedden also officiated as clerk of the course. There were sixteen events on the proeramme, and a boys' race and girls'race as additional items. At about four o'clock another excursion party, on board bhe Waitoa, arrived, connected with All Saints' Church, at Ponsonby, and many pleasant greetings and mutual recognitions took place. Mr Reid, the owner of the island, was presenb, and on the steamers leaving hearty cheers were given for him for his kindness and courtesy. It was a beautiful moonlight night, and on the return trip to town dancing was freely indulged it on deck, and in another part of bhe vessel music and singing and light flirtation engrossed the atbention of others. Mrs A. Clark presented the prizes bo the successful competitors, and votes of thanks were accorded to the Committee for their efforts, and cheers given to the employers for their generosity, and to the ladies whose presence and beauty had conduced to the happiness which will be long esteemed in the remembrance of all present.
