KUAOTUNU GOLDFIELD.

(I'EOM OUR O'.VN CORKESPONDENT.)

KiuoTUNiT, Thursday. Since tho holidays, quite a number of visitors have arrived here, amongst thorn being a few old Ohinomuri prospectors, whom wo questioned re tho looks and prospects of the field generally. They express thornselves highly pleased with the kindly appearance of gold-bearing country plainly visible to an experienced eye. Mr Goodall was here last week inspecting ths machine site. Ho also inspected the landing, and is of opinion that they will have no trouble in hustling all tho machinery, which will be eiiccted during the coming fortnight. During the past fortnight there is nothing particularly fresh i:o report in tho mine! WoodcocK and Nelson are busily engaged bagging a trial parcel of 15 tons. Tho reef is fully 3 feet thick, and is.an entirely distince line of reef to the Try Fluko run of reefs. Gold in fino streaks is plainly visible to the naked eje, and should run 3 to 4cw to the ton. A very noticeable feature in this reef id the great amount of silica intermixed with t'no quart;!. The country is (irat class, interlaced with cross-leads und flintics, which are all noted indications of gold. There aro other claims taken up on the samo line with fairly good prospects.

TRY FLUKE,

Thewinze is novvdown a depth of 30 feet The reef appears to be widening out as it is sunk on, and the prospects are even better here than on the surface. Gold is freely seen throughout the wholo width of the reef, which ie fully °< feet 6 inches thick. The very samo indications are noticeable here as in Woodcock's. Tho manager ia calling tenders for driving a low level a distance of 300 feeb, which should give fully 200 fees of backs. The Carbine have extended their north crosscut on the reef a distance of 15 feet. The reef here is split into ribs, and the prospects are equally as good as on tho surface, fully 15Q feet above. As the level progresses a splendid block will be available". In tho Mariposa the proprietors have opened out on the Try Fluke reef at different points, and have obtained firsb-class prospects afc every opening. There are a number of other claims on this block in full swing with encouraging prospects. In the Otama claim tho manager has 30 tons at the landing, which will be shipped for the Thames during tho week. The prospects obtained should warrant the stuff worth three to four ounces to tho ton. A few pounds of picked stone on hand is worth two ounces to the pound.
