HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present : Messrs Mays (in the chair), Swales, Dignan, Bollard, Buckland, Udy and Lennox.

House Committee's Report.—This Committee reported that Dr Bell had been requestedtoaekthelateHonoraryMedicalStaff to conduct the examination of the probationary nurses. Several other snfall matters had been attended to. The report was adopted. Some discussion took place on clause 5, which is given elsewhere. Nurses' Examination.—Dr. Mackellar, for the Visiting Staff, reported that the following probationary nuraes had satisfied the examiners :—Helen Margetts, Ada Morrison, J. Smyth, Eleanor Pulham, M. Miller, Mary T. Fernandez. The Lady Superintendent reported that these young ladies were most cheerful, thorough, and efficient in their work during the year. It was resolved to issue the necessary certificates, and to thank the examiners throusrh Dr. Bell.

Refuge Contract.—The architect for the now Refuge, Air Bartley, reported that the slight misunderstanding with Mr Holland over certain work to be done in connection with the building had been satisfactorily arranged. It waa resolved to proceed with the work, Mr Holland's written consent being first obtained. Tenders.—The following tenders were received for certain plumbing work to be done at the Hospital:—H. Conquer, £17; Dunn, Smith and Co., £12 17s 6d ; John Petford, £12 15s; John Cricket t, £12 10s ; and D. Miller, £11 7s 6d. The last tender waa accepted. One tender for extras at the nursee' homo, that of. the contractor, for £20, was received and accepted.

Account wmi Wellington Board.— The Wellington Board wrote denying their liability o in the case of Catherine Trudgeon, f Wellington, admitted to the maternity ward in the Auckland Hospital. —A general opinion was expressed that the Wellington Board was trying to wriggle ouc-of its debts.—On the motion of Mr Mays, it was decided that the Wellington Board be informed that unless they pay the money due a writ will be issued for its recovery. Nkxt Meetings.—Mr Mays moved that the Board adjourn till that day month, the Secretary to call a special meeting if necessary. Dr. Collins' Arrival.—lt was decided that as many of the members as possible should.meet at the Hospital on the arrival of Dr. Collins to welcome him.

Thames Board.—Mr Buckland gave the following notice of motion :—" That at the second meeting in January the question of the adjustment of accounts with the Thames Board be considered, with the view of coming to some amicable arrangement."

Assistant House-Surgeon.—The stand-, ing orders were suspended, and Mr Mays moved, "That advertisements bo inserted in the newspapers for an assistant house surgeon and dispenser, at a salary of £150, with board and apartments in the institution." He also moved, ''.That the present dispenser be notified that after the 31st of January his services will no longer be required." —Mr Lennox seconded the motions and they were carried unanimously, the general opinion being expressed that the assistant surgeon could do the dispenser's work ; but that the Hospital Surgeon muet be relieved of all out-door work.
