Sir.,—ln reply to "Sportsman," whose letter appeared in your issue of the 6bh December, would you be good enough bo allow me bo draw his abtenfcion to tho Acb passed lasb session, entibled "An Acb to Amend tbe Animals Protection Act, 1880." in which he will see from Section 9 a special provision is made for killing godwits. Section 9 reads as follows : '* Notwithstanding anything contained in this or the said Acb, ib shall be lawful bo kill or bake the bird godwit—known by the native name kuaka, or hakakao—during the months of February, March and April; bub no person shall kill or bake any such bird ab any other time." This Act comes into force on the Ist January, 1890, and applies to the whole of New Zealand with the exception of the counties of Wesbland, Grey and Inangahua. I may add thab, as bhia new Acb is a very imporbanb one bo all interested in sport and to dealers in game, the sooner its provisions become widely known the bettor.
