CONSIDERATION OF THE TARIFF.
THE GOVERNMENT AND BANKING INSTITUTIONS.
Sydney, this day. The Hon. Mr McMillan, Colonial Treasurer, in his budget speech, delivered in the Assembly last night, said the Government would next session take into consideration the tariff with a view of |removing existing anomalies, and to introduce proposals for direct
taxation.
He also intimated that owing to the unreasonableness of the Associated Banks the Government had notified the. termination of the agreement hitherto existing with that combination, and added that the Government hoped to make better arrangements for the transaction of business with banking institutions outside of the Association.
