CHRISTMAS TREE AND WORK SALE.

At three o'clock this afternoon a sale of work and Christmas tree was formally opened by Hie Lordship Bishop Luck in the Catholic Institute, YYel-lineton-street, the proceeds to augment the funds of St. Patrick's. "The ladies of the Roman Catholic Cathedral had for a considerable time past been busily engaged in making arrangements for the affair, and the sale of work when it opened this afternoon promised to be very successful. The interior of the hall is appropriately decorated, and the various work-tables, etc are tastefully and artistically arranged and provided with a multitudinous variety of every imaginable pretty knickknack in fancy work, as well as with a considerable supply of substantial and useful articles and clothing. The flowerstalls are very attractive, and the same can be eaid of the enticing refreshment tables. A variety of amusements are provided, and every visitor to the hall receives a ticket which entitles him to a chance for a prize off the Christmas tree, which is one of the chief features of the show. The ladies who were mainly instrumental m getting up the sale of work were Misses Shanoghan, Sheehan, Harkme, O'Neill, O'Rvaiv Regan, and others, and they deserve a word of praise for the elaborate end satisfactory arrangements made. The sale closes at, 5 o'clock this afternoon and opens again at 7 p.m.'for the evening. A promenade concert takes place at 7.30 p. m. and should attract a good attendance. To-morrow afternoon and evening the sale and Christmas tree will again be open to "the public.
