SHIPPING DIFFICULTY SETTLED.
■The shipping difficulty raised by the Mcl bourne Wharf Labourers' Union, in makm? certain demands of the shipowners for -an increase of wages, is likely to be settled without the aid of a strike. An official conference was held last week, between the Presidents and Se° °l n ™ s ® Wharf Labourers' and shl P, o% ™f£f Associations, when the labourers mam feeto was gone through and the patter talked over. The delegates for evinced a disposition to refer claims to arbitration provided the demand for increased wages be conceded. Subsequently a meeting of steamship owners, master stevedores and others interested in shipping was nelcl,when it was re solved that the demand of the labourers for an increase of wages to Is3d per hour be ' granted provided the Labourers' Union sign the rule, of the Board of Conciliation, and refer the other matters in the manifesto^ to arbitration. A mass meeting of wharf Wharf Labourers' Union and the shrp :y.' as usual. '■
