Kawakawa, this day. A party of eight started on Monday and had to turn back to the Hikurangi Hotel, twelve miles out, after picnicking on the bridge of the same name. They made another etarb nexb morning, ana took 14 hours to complebe the journey of 6U miles The rush of water hear Edwards, the half-caste's, approaching Puhipuhi Block from Whangarei, was fearful, and there was a narrow escape from loss oi life in consequence. Unfortunately, Christy, the driver, only had two horses. The road into Puhipuhi from here is still high and dry, arl have only juafc come in. The Tain has been eomebhmg terrific, bub bhereJs still only two teeb of water in the Tirionga River, crossing.

Mr l> R Sheriff Gaibraith has assayed 80m e stuff received by him from Hikurangi, and broueht down by yesberday's boat from Whangarei, bub the ore is very poor, in facb hardly worth assaying. The oreisnob ab all like the original Pufupuhi stuff, and must come from a different reef. Mr GalSaith has assayed no sbufffor Mr Hobb», w thinks this Btnff which he assayed yesterday may be whab Mr Hobbs brought down.
