A BAY OF ISLANDS VIEW.
RIGHT OF CHRISTY TO PROSPECT.
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Kawakawa, this day.
People here generally aro glad to learn that Mr Wilson, Thames Mining Inspector, has been ordered to Puhipuhi to reporb on bhe field. All here are surprised ab tho apparent ignorance of the correct locality of the presenb silver find, which is north of No. 3 block, Puhipuhi State forest, and on the Tangiapakura River, leading from Waiotu river. Ib is in Kawakawa riding, Bay of Islands County, while the whole of Puhipuhi is in the Bay of Islands electorate. Ib is ton miles from Taumarere Railway Station and twelve from Kawakawa R ulway Station. Forest ranger Gamsed has now been here four days, awaiting instructions re prosecuting Captain Christy as a trespasser. This crave a ve-fc-resome few „ splendid opportunity bo get into Puhipuhi on Sunday and up till now. t have seen Christy's permit giving him a license for 12 raonbhs from October last to prospect on blocks 3 and 15, so bhab bhere is something sbrange aboub the proceedings, probably a bungle, especially as Mr Humphries, ■ the Crown Lands Commissioner, in refusing Mackenzie and Company's applicabion for a lease, which I have also perused, clearly states "The license of those men (original four prospectors) now working bhere has expired, bub on account of their application for a lease, they are allowed to remain a little longer so that they may get oub more sbuff for besbing. Ib is thus easily seen who has the right to continue prospecting," It is estimated bhat a substantial bridge across the Tiraonga for dray traffic would only cost £300. At present there is only a foob of water at the crossing. No other bridging is required. The County Council have taken the mabber in hand.
