FIRE AT MANGAWAI.
Mr Sharpe, a settler a*fc Mangawai, had the misfortune to have his residence and outhouses all destroyed by fire on the 23rd of November. The cause of the fire has not been definitely ascertained, bufc ifc is believed to have resulted in connection with the stove. Mrs Sharpe was out milking, and her husband was in the greenhouse, when suddenly they discovered fchafc their residence wa3 in flames. An attempt was made to gefc some things oub at the bedroom window, bufc lifctle was saved. When ib became evident thab the house could nob be saved Mr and Mrs Sharpe directed their attention to the dairy and wine cellar, but these also were destroyed. The pigs and calves had to be released and hunted away from the fire". The dog is supposed to have been burnt in the house. Mr Sharpe is insured for £300 in fche Royal, and estimates his loss afc double thab amounb,
