MORE ROBBERIES AT PONSONBY,
THE "CRACKSMAN" SEEN
With a perseverance worthy of abetter: cause the Sunday evening burglar still continues his visitations at Ponsonby. This time the man entered the residence of MrClose, eenr., in Sb. Mary's Road,and fomnoe» was seen. It appears that Mr Close, who; is now advanced in years, was sitting talks jnf with a friend during tho hours whejn Divine service ia held. Although ifc was getting dark they had nob troubled to liqhb a candle, but continued theii conversafci on in bhe gloaming. Aboub five minute 3to eicht o'clock they hoard footsteps, aiod were astonished to soa a man come out of one of the rooms and cross the hall, holding alight in front of him. Mr Close called, out, " What do you want? how came you Judra?" when the man promptly blew out the light and rushed off in the direction of the kitchen. He was at once followed, when it was found that the man had retreated by means .of tho .scullery window. So quietly had his entrance been effected that bho firsb intimation of his being in the house was the sight of the man passing along the hall. An examination of the window showed thab bhe man had by means of a thin knife prized back the hasp aud got inside.
