Drunkenness. — Two first - offending inebriates were 5s or 24 hour;; in default. Thomas McLeod, being a second offender,waa lined 10s or 48 hours in default. William Dunne wars lined 20s or 48 hours for a. similar offence. Defendant did nob appear, and consecjuently forfeited his bail. — Bridget Lestrang'e, charged with drunkenness, was further remanded for one week, as 3he was not fit to leave the Hospital.—John Thakaberry, as an habitual drunkard, was sentenced to three months' hard labour. The Bench remarked that the Government ought to be petitioned to keep this man in sorno asylum, as it \vu? useless to refer to his previous convictions, they boing so numerous. City By-laws.—Joshua Firth pleaded guilty to having ridden round the corner of Shortland street at other than a walking pace, and was lined 5s and costs. Compulsory Education. — V) r m. I'au'sy was charged vrith having neglected f o send his son to the public school —Defendant aaid that hi? boy would nob go to school, and he could not make him, although he had at tinifs taken him to school in a cab. —Mr .Small, Truant Officer, appeared on behalf of the City Schools Committee, and ur"ed that tho parent was responsible for h<3 eon. — The Bench ordered that the boy should bo fent bo school, defendant a ; so to pay costs. —Orlando Mazzolini was charged with having neglected to send his son bo school. —Defendant said that bis son left home in the morning as if he was going to school. —The Bench ordered that the boy should be sent to school, defendant to pay Court costs.
