When Stemson joined McPherson the longest stand of the innings took place, the score being advanced to go before

Stemson was bowled for a freely played 31. After this wickets fell at a great pace, Neill getting 3 wickets in five balls, when the score was at 115, and Arneil performing , the oafc trick with the score at 134. MacCormick was the only remaining batsman, who afforded McPherson much assistance, making 13 in good form. To McPherson, however, the greatest praise is due. Hβ went in first and performed the rare feat of carrying his bat through the innings for a carefully compiled 47. The innings closed for 134. Messrs I\~eili and Arneil both bowlod with marked effects, notwithstanding the exceedingly rough wind. We regret to have to complain of the delay caused in the start of this match on account of the absence of three of the Auckland men, Messrs C. F. Reid, H. Wynyard and Forrest, and hope we shall noD have to notice an cccurrenco of a like nature again, as it is not fair to their own men or to their opponents. Auckland started batting with Messrs Richards and Neill. The latter lost his wicket within a few minutes of time, when Morey joined Richards. At call of time the score stood at 24, of which Richards had made 20 not out. COUNTRY CRICKET.
