NEWTON.
A meeting of the members of the above body was held last night. Present: Messrs Ambury (Mayor), English, Warnock, Cox, Brown, Donald, Webley, Riggs, Cleghorn, and Porter. Waterworks. —Cr. Brown mentioned that an amount of clear water was to be observed running into the sewer. He suggested thab in order to ascertain whether the water was running to waste it would be advisable to turn off the water for six hours and see if it made any difference.—Tho matter was referred to the Streebs Commibtee. Turncock's Salary.—The Mayor said that it would be requisite to pay the turncock's salary out of the Waterworks Fund, bub only thab. He therefore gave notice to move, "That the resolution authorising payment of the turncock, one-half out of the waterworks account, and the other from the general account, be rescinded, with a view to putting bhe payment of his salary upon a proper basis." Thanks. —On the motion of the Mayor a vote of thanks was accorded the City Council for the accommodation afforded for the sborage of fire brigade material, pending the erection of the present station.
