PROSPECTING IN NEW GUINEA.
Brisbane, August 8.
The Curlew has arrived at Cooktown from the islands adjacent to New Guinea, bringing six ounces of gold and 22 passengers, four of whom are very sick. The first Normanby prospecting party are aboard. They report that the prospects obtained were very good, but the influx of water prevents sinking below 5 feet. The Spendthrift also arrived with 78 ounces of gold and 25 passengers. The reports are very discount A party " b ™s s formed to prospect the Solomon Islands.
