SIR GEORGE GREY'S AMENDMENTS.

PROPOSED REPEAL OF THE ACT,

EFFORTS FOR A COMPROMISE.

Wellington, 1.30 p.m. Sir George Grey now tells me that he purposes bringing in his amendment in the form of an Act, entitled "An Act to Suspend the Representation Act Amendment Act, 1887," and to limit each elector to one vote. Hβ will thus drop the proposal to repeal the Act and obtain a dissolution. It is said there are 53 membere willing , to suspend the Act, but it is not likely to meet with the approval of the Government. The country party hold a meeting at 2 o'clock to-day to ccc if they can arrange a compromise.
