A telegram was received from the Chairman of the Tauranga School Committee by the Board of Education yesterday. -It was as follows : " This Committee declines to accept Mr W. W. Madden as head teacher of No. 1 School on the ground that he is entirely unknown to it, and it has never considered his candidature, and seeing that the Board neglect's to call for applications in accordance wibh the desire of the Committee, recommends Jeremiah Murphy, M.A., 84, for head teacher, and requests the Board to appoint him accordingly, and temporarily ab all events, till end of the year. The Committee takes this action, not objecting to Madden personally, but on principle, holding that the Committee, as representative of the parents of the children, should have a large voice in the selection of a teacher." The Board decided to notify the Committee that Mr Madden had been appointed,
