DRAUGHTS ITEMS.
General regret is expressed by those who enjoy a game of draughts that the match for the championship of Auckland did not eventuate. Ib remains to be seen, however, whether Mr Gunthorp will be allowed to enjoy his bloodless victory in peace. Surely some of the many draught players in this city will challenge the new champion and test his ability to maintain that position. Steps are now being taken to inaugurate a draught contest in Auckland for a trophy. The idea is to have a series of games and see what our players are mado of. The manner in which the draught boards are utilised at the Free Library shows how many peoplo there are who enjoy a quiet game of checkers.
