(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Thames, this day. A requisition to the Mayor is being numerously signed, asking him to call a public meeting to consider what steps should be taken in reference to the conduct of Messrs Haselden and Douglas, J.P.s, who adjudicated on the case of Eayers and Williams. Selina Williams, wife of Charles Williams, of Parawai, was charged on the information of Thomas Fulljames, master of the Thames Orphanage, that she did on the 12th inst. unlawfully assault one Selina Eayers, by kicking her thighs and stomach, and by scratching her on the neck with a knife. The evidence showed that the girl Eayers had been " licensed " to defendant from the Orphanage since April last, and it was alleged that Mrs Williams had beateu her in a most brutal manner, inflicting numerous bruises on her arms and body, besides scratching her on the neck with a knife. The case was, however, dismissed.
