Wellington, this day. Louis Chemis was again before the Court charged with having murdered Thomas ■hawkins on the 31st May. Edwin Henry Bradford, Government armourer, deposed that he had examined the gun produced and found a trace of soob in ono barrel, but not in bho other. Both barrels were dirty. He thought the weapon Had been recently discharged, but whether a week or the day before he could nob say. He beheveu both barrels had nob been tired oa on bhe same clay. When bo pub a» finger in bho second barrel it came oub clean. The inside of bhe barrel n-om winch the soob catno was compa-a-"vely smooth. The other barrel was rough, lie could nob express an opinion as to Whether each barrel of the double-barrelled gun had been tired oft' on tho same day. Cross-examined : If two shots were fired He thought they must have been from tho same barrel. They would take about a minute to reload.
