NEWTON.
The usual meeting of the Newto > Borough Council was held last night when there were present, the Mayor (Mr ' J. Ambury), and Councillors Riggs, English, Brown, Cox, Porter, Faulder, Webley, and Donald. Very little business of importance was transacted. It was decided to use a few loads of metal in repairing the Great North Road. A lengthy letter was received from Mt_C. Bate 3, drawing attention to the almost impassable state of Pollen-street, and asking that it should be attended to, as nothing had been done during the four years he had resided there. The letter was referred to the Streets Committee to report.— Messrs R. and W. Hellaby wrote calling attention to the state of Bridge-street, near Cox's Creek. The letter was ferred to- the Streets Committee with power to act. — W.. Lovett's tender wag accepted for carting scoria and metal : Rough scoria, Is lHd per cubic yard ; fine ditto, 2s 5d ; carting metal, Is lid : carting spawls, Is 6d per cubic yard. Ib was also decided that the Town Clerk should write to the City Council asking them to cause the gorse to be removed from Richmond Road.
