The Hon. E. Mitchelson, Minister of Public Works and Native Minister, has so far been occupied with business of a private character. On Monday next he will proceed to tho Thames to deal with matters connected with the railway line from Grahamstown to To'Arhoa. The Government have been urged to push this work on, and Mr Mitchelson will decide whether or not it is judicious for the Government to expend any more money upon it.

Mr James Mclndoe, a farmer at Mount Albert, suffered last night from the visits of a thief who left behind an old "rook" in place of Mr Mclndoe's , own horse, which being missing, it is preBurned was taken away. The horse left behind had on it recent marks of the saddle and bridle. It is thorefore probable that tho man rode his own horse as far as Mr Mclndoe's and thon efleoted the exchange.

Adepubafcion of oystormon waited upon Sir Frederick Whit&ker this forenoon. The deputation included Messrs F. Williams, J. Lowndos, and W. Nelson. Mr Moss introduced the deputation, and then handed to Sir Frederick a petition signed by the local oystermen and intended for presentation to the Premier, praying the Government to reconsider their decision witfi regard to 'closing the Coromandel oyster grounds.
