VOLUNTEER NOTES.
Any person who visited the Drill-shed last evening must have felt pleased with the sight of the two fine companies at drill —the Auckland and Ponsonby Navals; each company stretched from one side of the shed to the other. The officers and men bore a smart and clean appearance after their Opotiki expedition, which has had a very beneficial etlect, numbers of men offering to join. The Auckland Navals' full Btrength. is 100, while the Ponsonbys only require some seven or eight more men, who will be obtained next week. After a good drill, the companies formed a square, and Dr. Walker presented several of the Ponsonby men with medals and trophie3, won afc the lasb shooting contest. The Auckland Navals arranged to go into camp to-day, and invited their comrades, the Ponsonbys, to a church parade at the North Shore tomorrow. CHURCH PARADE. Arrangements have been made for the encampment-- at Devonport to-morrow forenoon in connection with the Auckland Naval Encampment. Officers and men of war vessels in port will also take part.
