BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The ordinary meeting of the Board of Education was held this afternoon. Present : Messrs Upton (Chairman), Lennox, Carr, Cooper, Udy, Luke, and Goldie. Truant School.—Mr J. S. Small reported that the total number of schools under hia jurisdiction for 1888 was 14. Albert-street school had an average attendance of 101 daily during the last quarter of 1888, and was considered to have proved an unqualified success. Chairman's Report.—The Chairman's report stated that Mr Chas. Nettleahip, teacher of Pukete school, had resignedjjand that probationarypupil teachers had been attached to the following schools : —Efflio M. Perth, to Newton East 5 Ethel Thompson, to W'ellesloy-street } Evelino Molloney, to Napier-street, Balances.—Mr V. E. Rico (secretary) stated that the balances to-day were : — Education fund, credit, £819 5s 3d ; building fund, credit, £2,189 0s 4d ; Girla' High 'School, credit, 10a sd, Donation.—Mr J. O. Firth forwarded copy of each of his book 3on " Lions in the Way" and "Luck,1 and intimated hia desire to donate 150 copies for distribution among the schools.—The donation was accepted with thanks.
