POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.

(Before Messrs McCausland and Wade, Justices.)

Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were each fined 5s and costs or in default 24 hours' hard labour. Richard Cahill pleaded guilty to having been drunk, but as he was evidently suffering from a fall he was diamissed on the recommendation of SergeantMajor Pratt. Obscene Language,—Samuel Taylor was sentenced to one month's hard labour for having used obscene language within the hearing of Constable Dunn in Queen-street. Stealing Boots. — Edward Neill was charged with the larceny of one pair of boots,value 12s 6d, the property of William Holdsworth. Prisoner pleaded guilty and Avas sentenced to three months' with hard labour.

Straying Horses.—Hayden Smith was fined 5s and costs for permitting two of his horses to stray in Carleton Gore Road. Feminine Quarrels. —Hannah Hansen was charged with having at Papakura on the 2nd of March assaulted Ellen Bond.— Mr Humphreys appeared for the complainant, and Mr Buckland for the defendant.— Evidence was given by Ellen Bond, John Bond, Mrs Hansen and several others, when the case was dismissed.
